Jake Coleson headed to state meet

Jake+Coleson+headed+to+state+meet

Jake Coleson is a current senior and student-athlete at Harrison High School. Jake has attended Harrison all four years of his academic career and has run track and cross-country for three of them; missing his junior year seasons to heal from an overstrained MLC. This break would cause a mental struggle for Jake, however, he returned to run for his final year.

Jake first started running in middle school when he decided to go on a run one day. Little did he know he would soon find passion and happiness in the runs. He joined the cross-country and track team his freshman year; with a preference towards cross-country. This preference is influenced by the changes in environment and weather with every run; none ever being the same as the previous.

This is potentially Jake’s final season running with a future in the military. These final seasons are “bittersweet” for him as he finishes his running career. He expressed his appreciation for his teammates, feeling honored to be able to run with people who push and support each other with love.

He stated that his biggest supporter is Ms.McCann, who has shown up and kept pushing him to his better potential. She always kept the door open for him, even when he was injured. McCann has been his coach all 3 seasons he ran. “He is incredibly self-driven, one of the most coachable athletes I’ve ever worked with,” she says.

Jake Coleson has recently qualified for regionals, placing 8th in his qualification race at regionals and is now the first athlete to qualify from Harrison since 200 . To be qualified, runners have to be in the top 15. Before this, Jake’s best was placing 18th at regionals his sophomore year. His season-best was his time of 16 minutes and 54 seconds in a 5k, which is 3.1 miles.

Jake will run for HHS at the state meet Saturday, October 28, at Norris Penrose.  The race is at 12:20.
