Harrison High School was without a printed student news source for far too long. The Paw Print has been the trusted news source of Harrison since 1965 and remained steady up until budget cuts slowly disbanded the media classes and eventually the printed newspaper altogether around 2019. During the Covid-19 education era, an online version via a student blog allowed students a platform for expression, but students at Harrison had no regular, trusted news source to get updated information about events, sports, and entertainment.
Now they have it all.
In early September, The Panther Press debuted its new website, pantherpresshhs.com, featuring daily updated student news, announcements, sports scores, and photo reels of life around campus. The staff of nearly fifty students worked hard on its debut and have since added social media sites on Tik-Tok, Instagram, Facebook, and X. And now, the first printed issue welcomes a new era of student journalism at Harrison High School. Working closely with students in graphic design and yearbook courses, the journalism staff hopes to provide students with a well-rounded snapshot of their four years of life on Harrison’s campus in every format imaginable, all while learning the function of the news in an educational setting.
