Students and staff practiced a lockdown drill in the building today as part of normal security protocol. There was never a threat and all students and staff are safe.
After the drill, administrators and security meet to discuss the drill and communicate any improvements that need to be made in preparation for emergency situations.
The administration team would like to remind parents and students of the three levels of security protocol at Harrison. In a SECURE situation, nobody is allowed in or out of the building and business as normal continues within the building. Students will transition at bells as normal and lunch will be held on campus only. This usually takes place when there is police activity off campus in the nearby area.
In a HOLD situation, students are kept in classrooms and out of the halls. Students are not released at transition times until the hold is lifted. This protocol normally goes into effect if there is a physical altercation or a medical emergency within the school.
During a LOCKDOWN, students and staff go into the nearest locked room, turn lights off and stay quiet and away from windows and doors. No doors are opened once closed and administrators or police will announce when doors can be opened again. This protocol goes into effect if there is ever a threat inside the building.
School administration will communicate anytime an emergency protocol is used via the IC messaging notification system.
