The Fiesta Patrias parade took place Saturday, the 16th in downtown, Colorado Springs as part of a tradition celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.

A team of marching band students and JROTC cadets represented Harrison in the celebration of Mexican Independence.   Hayden Smith (12), Corps. Commander at Harrison and his cadets presented the colors for both the Mexican and American National Anthems which were played by the HHS Marching Band.

In an unexpected twist, Harrison’s group was asked to perform early and they made quick adjustments.  “We were rushed to get supplies and had about 3-5 minutes to get ready and put on our uniforms,” adds Hayden.

After the presentation of colors, the presenters were invited to a meal.

Hayden said, “I am used to performing in front of crowds which is why Col. Miller carefully selects his presenters. And it was really fun. I am thankful for my teammates and fellow cadets for being there and I want to commemorate them for doing a good job and being prepared.”
