Student Spotlight: Introducing Mateen Briggs

Student Spotlight: Introducing Mateen Briggs

Mateen Saeed Briggs (11) of the Harrison High School Panthers Varsity Football team is one talented center. Mateen has been playing football since the age of seven. Mateen rocks #72 on the field and is embracing his role while he grows as a person and a player.

When asked why he plays football, he responded, “ I’ve liked it ever since I picked up that football for the first time as a kid. I’ve come too far to just quit the sport I love, especially with all the time and work I’ve put in.”

Football is a sport that requires physical and mental strength. Briggs says, “Being an athlete stresses you out but it also keeps you busy, keeps you active, and you’re never really bored.”

To Mateen, football is “ truly an escape from reality, your life, anything you got going on in life. Once those pads, the helmet, and that uniform are on, it’s time to forget about all that you have in life, all the worries, all the stress, just forget about it and go hit someone.”

Mateen makes a habit of working hard at the practices, studying the film, memorizing and studying the paper handouts up until it’s time to play.

Watch out for #72 on the field. You may even see him playing college ball one day.
