Varsity volleyball is off to the strongest seasonal start in decades after securing their 4th win against the Mitchell Mauraders on Thursday night. The team is now 4-0 on the season as they prepare for their league lineup.
The team is strong, but has some standout players early on. Nadia Turnipseed (#1), a senior, holds the top spot in the league for Kills, while Audriyna Uribe (#2) and Zariea Patrick (#12), both juniors, hold the #1 and #2 spots for serves in the league.
All three teams performed well against Mitchell, with C sweeping 2-0, JV sweeping 2-0, and Varsity sweeping 3-0.
“This is the best start of my four seasons as head coach. We’ve always been one of the hardest working teams in the league, but struggled with wins because we weren’t putting the ball on the floor,” says HC Joe Rodrigues.
Harrison Volleyball has struggled to put wins on the board over the last decade, with their last three seasons ending in 3-20, 2-21, and 7-16 respectively.
There is hope. Coach Rodrigues says, “If we keep playing the way we are, we could end up having the best season we’ve had in my 12 seasons at Harrison.”
The girls will play a tournament on Saturday at Mesa Ridge at 9:00am.
“Last year we didn’t see very positive outcomes. This year we are stronger, faster, and more optimistic,” says Patrick.
